I hope Bastian is given more playing time, says United midfielder
Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has expressed hope that Bastian Schweinsteiger will receive further playing time after the German made his first appearance under Jose Mourinho in last night’s EFL Cup victory over West Ham.
Schweinsteiger initially found himself isolated from the first-team set-up following Mourinho’s appointment as manager but the experienced midfielder has been eased back into the fray in recent weeks and played three minutes as a substitute in the 4-1 triumph against the Hammers.
As reported by The Independent, Carrick said: “He got an unbelievable reception. It was great just to see him playing. He nearly scored as well – and that would have been nice.
“You understand that all sorts of situations happen in football. You just have to get on with it.
“Decisions are made by people above you and there are all sorts of ups and downs along the way. You get on with it because it is the only way you can cope.
“Bastian has trained well and trained hard. He has got his first game of the season and who knows what will happen now?”
