MUST SEE: Highest paid player revealed, not Messi or Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo signed a new five-year contract with Real Madrid last month, which guarantees him £365,000 a week up until 2021.
The Portuguese superstar, who will be named as the winner of the 2016 Ballon d’Or next week, is no doubt content knowing that he’s the world’s highest-paid footballer.
However, according to new documents which have been leaked by the whistleblowing organisation ‘Football Leaks’, there’s one player who earns more than Madrid’s No. 7.
It isn’t his teammate Gareth Bale, who takes home £350,000 a week. It’s not Lionel, Neymar, Luis Suarez, Paul Pogba or Zlatan Ibrahimovic either.
The report - brought to our attention by Goal - claims that the world’s highest-paid player is earning a weekly salary of, wait for it, £493,000.
It perhaps won’t come as a huge shock to discover that the player in question is currently plying his trade in the Chinese Super League, where clubs are seemingly prepared to pay any half-decent footballer a king’s ransom to swap Europe for East Asia.
Hulk is currently earning an absurd £320,000-a-week with Shanghai SIPG while Graziano Pelle is pocketing £260,000-a-week with Shandong Luneng.
But that’s small change compared to the money being earned by the Argentina international Ezequiel Lavezzi, according to the new Football Leaks document.
It was reported when Lavezzi left Paris Saint-Germain for the aptly-named Hebei China Fortune earlier this year that he would earn an obscene £400,000-a-week.
But it’s now been revealed that Lavezzi, 31, is almost earning half-a-million quid every week.
Mind blowing.
HE DIDN'T EVEN SCORE A LEAGUE GOAL LAST SEASON
Even more remarkable is the fact that Lavezzi failed to score a single goal in 10 appearances in the Chinese Super League last season.
For a player earning considerably more than both Ronaldo and Messi, Hebei China Fortune would be well within their rights to expect at least a goal a game from the South American forward.
