Neymar equalled the Champions League record for assists in a single season on Wednesday night, as his seventh helped Barcelona to another impressive victory over Celtic

The Spanish champions arrived at Celtic Park looking to bounce back from their disappointing 3-1 defeat against Manchester City last time out, leaving them top of Group C on nine points. However Luis Enrique’s men ensured their progress to the knockout stages with a 2-0 win over Celtic thanks to a Lionel Messi brace.

His opening goal saw yet another record being equalled, but this time it was teammate Neymar who earned the accolade, equalling the assists’ record in a single Champions League campaign with what proved to be his seventh from 15 chances created.

The 24-year-old has been one of Barcelona’s standout players in Europe this season, scoring two goals alongside his seven assists, as they secured top spot over City following the latter’s 1-1 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach.
